Images Your Rapids Containers Run Can't Be Deleted by Accident

Deleting an image one of your Rapids containers is deployed from is now refused, so a cleanup script can no longer take a live site down.

  • Deleting a tag, a batch of tags or a whole repository is refused while a Rapids container is deployed from it, in the dashboard, the API and the CLI, and the refusal names the container
  • Other tags that point at the same image are protected too

  • To delete it anyway, pass force=true to the API or --delete-in-use to the CLI (1.2.1 or later)
  • Automatic retention never removes an image a container runs, and does not count it toward your keep-last limit
  • If a running container's image cannot be pulled, the container is marked Degraded and your team is emailed straight away

Automatic Image Retention and Accurate Registry Usage

Keep only the images you can roll back to, and see how much space your repositories really use.

  • Set a keep-last-N retention per repository, with an account-wide default that every repository inherits unless it sets its own
  • Retention is enforced on every push: older tags beyond the limit are removed, the tag you just pushed is always kept, and layers still referenced by a kept tag are never deleted
Show 3 more changes
  • Repository sizes now reflect the real content of multi-architecture images, which used to be counted at a few kilobytes each
  • Deleting an image from the dashboard now reports a refused deletion instead of claiming success while the bytes stayed
  • The retention editor states plainly whether a repository inherits the default, keeps a number of tags or is unlimited
