A Rebuilt Create VPS Page With the Price Always in View

Creating a VPS is now one guided page: choices in the order you make them, a summary with the price that follows you, and errors that take you straight to the problem.

  • Choose the image, plan, location and network, access and options, then the name, which is pre-filled and explains its rules
  • A summary follows you down the page with every choice, a link back to each, the monthly price and why an order cannot be placed yet; on smaller screens a bottom bar carries the price and the order button
Show 4 more changes
  • Plans show vCPUs, RAM, disk and price on any screen, down to a phone
  • Problems are summarised by section and the first field at fault gets focus, including errors returned by the server
  • Automated snapshots switched on while creating a VPS are now saved; if you created a VPS with them switched on before 20 September, check its snapshot setting
  • A failed price quote no longer shows €0.0000/hour, and Add payment method opens the payment dialog

New VPS Instances: Reliable Private DNS and an Accurate Setup Status

A new VPS keeps resolving the private hostnames of your managed databases, caches and queues, and first-boot setup now waits for, and reports, what is really happening.

  • New VPS instances resolve names only through the platform DNS, so the private hostnames of your databases, caches and queues no longer start failing with host not found after a while
  • Docker containers on the VPS, including those on user-defined networks, resolve those private hostnames too
Show 4 more changes
  • cloud-init status --wait now waits for first-boot security hardening, so installing a package right after it no longer fails on a locked package manager
  • After a reboot the login banner no longer claims hardening is still running, and dd-hardening-status reports the real state
  • A freshly created VPS no longer reports cloud-init as degraded
  • These fixes apply to VPS instances created from 16 September onward; existing instances keep their original setup

Disk Resize Points the VM at Its New Disk

A resize could leave the console showing starting for hours while the VM waited on a disk that no longer existed.

  • After a disk resize the running VM is pointed at the cloned, larger disk, and errors from the virtualisation layer are surfaced on the instance instead of being swallowed
  • The traffic page drop-reason breakdown now shows only the drops for the VPS you are viewing, not for the whole cluster

Firewall Rules Keep Their Ports and Protocols

Three firewall fixes found through support tickets.

  • Regenerating a firewall no longer turns a port-specific rule into an all-traffic rule, and stale rules are replaced correctly
  • Large port ranges are accepted again instead of being rejected by the policy engine
Show 2 more changes
  • A firewall named with spaces or capitals now deploys; the name is only used as a label
  • Attaching and detaching firewalls is safe to retry, detaching cleans up the generated policy, and removing an instance removes its policies too

Your Root Password No Longer Reaches the VPS Console Log

Cloud-init now receives a SHA-512 hash instead of your plaintext root password, and your own SSH settings are no longer overridden by ours.

  • The root password is embedded as a SHA-512 crypt hash, never as plaintext
  • Passwords you supply in custom cloud-init are hashed the same way
Show 3 more changes
  • Our sshd drop-in is ordered so that your own Port and authentication overrides win
  • ssh.socket is reloaded so a custom SSH port takes effect on socket-activated Ubuntu
  • Fixed password logins being refused on Ubuntu images

  • Added AlmaLinux 10, Rocky Linux 10, Fedora 44 and 43, Alpine 3.24 and 3.23
  • Every offered image is pinned to a build we have boot-tested
Show 2 more changes
  • Retired end-of-life images: Debian 11, AlmaLinux 8, Rocky Linux 8, Fedora 42 and 41, Alpine 3.21 and 3.20

Your VPS Reaches a Usable SSH Prompt Much Faster

First boot no longer blocks on package upgrades or fixed sleep timers, so a new VPS is ready to log into sooner.

  • Base package upgrades moved to a background job instead of blocking boot
  • Removed fixed sleep delays from network and SSH configuration
Show 2 more changes
  • IPv6 router advertisement is polled for rather than waited on for a flat three seconds
  • You get a working SSH prompt sooner — hardening still completes in the background
